Dive into the world of watercolor! You’ll learn the fundamentals of watercolor painting—such as brush control, color mixing, washes, and layering—while creating a series of winter-themed motifs perfect for cards, tags, journaling, or seasonal art displays.

Required Supplies:

Watercolor Set

– A simple pan watercolor set with a variety of basic colors

– Choose one that includes a built-in or separate mixing area if possible

Brushes

– Size 6 round brush

– Size 8 round brush

– Small detail brush

– Any additional favorites for washes or line work

Watercolor Paper

– Cold press (140 lb / 300 gsm preferred)

– 9x12 pad or smaller, loose sheets or a block

Palette or Mixing Tray 

– Can be a plastic palette or even a ceramic dish/plate

Water Container

– A glass or jar for rinsing brushes

Paper Towels or Rag

– For blotting and cleanup

Pencil and Eraser

– For sketching simple outlines before painting

Black Fine Line Pen (waterproof)

– Optional for outlining motifs after painting (e.g., Micron or Uni Pin)
